Marian Robinson
Thousands of women in South Carolina already know what a powerful difference Marian Robinson has made to their lives. Her work has ensured that they are not alone when they face the terror of breast cancer.
From workshops and screenings to biopsies and medications, Robinson's Tri-County Community Action Teams, based in Clemson, S.C., raise funds to help low-income, uninsured women get the help they need.
"My motivation to make cancer a national priority is that I care," says Robinson. For the last seven years, she has organized an annual Golfing for a Cure tournament in her community, raising thousands of dollars a year to educate and empower women to get proper health services. "Good leadership and community spirit can turn the downside of disease into a classroom of prevention," she says. And she plans to continues spreading the word.
