A-C-T Environmental & Infrastructure Tackles Challenges Like Red Tide Mitigation

March 4, 2025 News

On World Engineering Day (March 4), companies like A-C-T Environmental & Infrastructure have a more than deserving spotlight shone upon them. Their work plays a vital role in building a better and more sustainable future.

About A-C-T Environmental

Founded by Rob Kincart in 1987 in Lakeland as a professional environmental contracting and consulting firm called American Compliance Technologies, A-C-T Environmental & Infrastructure provides services from remediation and emergency response to decontamination and training.

QUESTION: A-C-T operates across the state on a variety of projects. Can you share a recent project that presented unique challenges for your team? How did you approach these challenges, and what innovative solutions did your engineers develop to overcome them?

From Rob Kincart:

A-C-T Environmental & Infrastructure is presented with challenges daily from our clients. They face issues that need to be addressed quickly and effectively. One such challenge was from the Red Tide Mitigation Initiative: how to effectively deploy a series of various combative technologies that the Initiative had been developing for years. The initiative is being led by Mote Marine on behalf of the state of Florida..

We were asked to develop a way to deploy and apply the various liquid technologies that Initiative members had developed. They needed to be injected into the water column that contained the harmful Red Tide algal bloom. Our solution was to commission one of its barges to facilitate the requisite pump and injection equipment. Commission product tanks that contained various Initiative liquid technologies, and a custom designed and fabricated injection manifold probe.

A-C-T engineers and scientists designed the various portable electrical systems, transfer and injection pumps, valving, dosing meters, electronic logging probes and manifold probe. This all allowed injection of the technology in multiple conditions and various water depths.

Another important design element was to ensure that the system could be modular and portable. And, able to be connected to the deck of the barge without drilling holes in the vessel. The solution we designed and constructed was water-tested and found to be highly effective.

The unit is being used in further testing of the Initiative’s various technologies. There are various test sites affected by Red Tide and other harmful algal blooms.

A-C-T is immensely proud of our engineers and scientists’ ingenuity. They meet the challenges and demands of our clients on a daily basis.
