AdventHealth Building ER in Winter Haven, Landed on NewsWeek’s ‘Trustworthy’ List
AdventHealth, which moved into Polk County in September 2019 when it bought two hospitals in the area, is gaining attention as it just broke ground on a new emergency room in Winter Haven – shortly after receiving a top recognition.
The 20,000-square-foot, 24-bed emergency room is the first of a multi-phase construction plan that eventually will include a 192-bed hospital and medical offices on Cypress Gardens Boulevard. Construction on the ER will be done in phases and should be completed in summer 2024.
The health-care company also owns AdventHealth Heart of Florida in Davenport and AdventHealth Lake Wales, as well as the free-standing AdventHealth Four Corners ER (a department of AdventHealth Heart of Florida); two urgent care facilities; an OB-GYN office; physicians’ offices; and a primary care office.
“We are very excited to be taking this first step to further expand our footprint of emergency care services here in Winter Haven,’’ Tim Clark, president and CEO of the AdventHealth Polk County market, said in a statement. “The community has told us there is a need for convenient, world-class, whole-person care here in the southeast area of Winter Haven, and AdventHealth is proud to be able to provide those services. This ER is just the first phase of the medical campus we will be building on the site.”
Winter Haven Mayor Brad Dantzler welcomed the news for his growing city. The 2020 Census put Winter Haven’s population at 50,200, according to the Census Bureau. According to worldpopulationreview.com, the city’s estimated population in 2023 is 57,200.
“Winter Haven is growing so fast,” he said. “Just drive down Cypress Gardens Boulevard and you’ll see almost 1,500 housing units going up now. The need is great in Southeast Winter Haven, and I am confident that AdventHealth will have much success out there. … We do appreciate the commitment they have made to Winter Haven.”
The ER
The AdventHealth Winter Haven ER will have 24 exam rooms, including two that can accommodate children. The rooms include:
- A resuscitation room.
- A bariatric room.
- An obstetrics room.
- An isolation room.
- 20 private rooms.
Following check-in, they will see patients first in one of two triage rooms off the ER lobby.
Being Recognized
In addition to starting construction on the new ER, AdventHealth has also been recognized.
In the Health Care & Life Sciences category of Newsweek’s Most Trustworthy Companies in America 2023 list, AdventHealth ranks 20th. Newsweek based its ranking on market research conducted by its partner, Statista, which analyzed 95,000 consumer evaluations. The list recognizes companies with “the highest levels of customer trust, investor trust and employee trust.”

The health system encourages care that centers on the patient and includes respect and empathy.
2023 was the second year Newsweek has produced such a list, which included 700 companies in 23 industries. In the Grocery & Convenience Store category, Publix ranks No. 1.
AdventHealth also was named one of the nation’s Best Employers for New Grads by Forbes in 2022.
Forbes also partnered with Statista, which surveyed more than 28,000 young professionals on topics that included workplace safety, competitive pay, opportunities for advancement, diversity and inclusion and company image. Forbes also recognized AdventHealth as a Best in State overall employer in Florida.
