Dr. Anne B. Kerr Helps Eagles Soar at Polk State 

Esteemed Higher Ed Leader Dr. Anne B. Kerr Appointed as Interim President of Polk State College

Dr. Anne B. Kerr, a legendary higher education leader and President Emerita of Florida Southern College, has been appointed as the interim President of Polk State College. Dr. Kerr will pilot Polk State through its next chapter.

“Polk State is poised for continued excellence and innovation under Dr. Kerr’s leadership. Her proven track record assures us that the College is in more-than-capable hands as we build on our strong foundation,” Board Chair Ann Barnhart said. “We also extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Falconetti for her eight years of dedicated service, during which she advanced our mission and strengthened community ties, which will benefit generations to come.” 

A History of Excellence

Dr. Kerr brings a wealth of experience to the team at Polk State, including several decades of experience in the world of Florida’s higher ed. She holds a doctorate and a master’s degree from Florida State University, as well as a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University. She previously led Florida Southern College as president for 20 years. Before that, she solidified her foundation in administration and student services within various positions in Florida and Virginia. 

Her impact on Florida Southern can’t be overstated. According to a press release shared by Polk State announcing the news: 

“During her presidency at Florida Southern, Dr. Kerr spearheaded numerous initiatives that elevated the college’s profile and infrastructure. Under her leadership, the Barney Barnett School of Business and Free Enterprise, the Ann Blanton Edwards School of Nursing and the School of Physical Therapy were established, along with the School of Architecture. Doctoral programs in Education, Nursing, Physical Therapy and Psychology were also launched. Enrollment grew substantially, retention increased and student quality soared, with Florida Southern recognized as a “Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars.” Career services also flourished, with 98% of students either working or attending graduate programs in Dr. Kerr’s last year at Florida Southern.” 

Keeping the Momentum

Polk State is already solidified as an incredible institution of higher education thanks to the leadership of Dr. Falconetti. With the infusion of Dr. Kerr’s experience, Polk State is expected to continue gaining momentum in academic programs, community partnerships and student support initiatives. This is great news for our students and our community, as we welcome more bright scholars to strong institutions here in Polk.
