Polk County Public Schools Reaches Historic Graduation Rate
New Graduation Rate Report Showcases Polk County Public Schools Basis Point of Impact in Strengthening the Region’s Talent Pipeline

Economic prosperity doesn’t begin at the ribbon cutting—it starts in the classroom. A strong education system lays the foundation for a skilled workforce, business growth, and long-term competitiveness. Polk County Public Schools’ (PCPS) newly announced 2025 graduation rates underscore just how powerful that foundation has become.
According to a recent article posted by Polk County Public Schools, the countywide graduation rate soared to 87.7% (increasing 5.5% since 2024). Even more striking, the graduation rate for traditional high schools (excluding data from alternative and charter schools) climbed to 92.7%, reflecting a 5.2% increase from last year. These historic results signal not only academic progress, but meaningful momentum in developing Polk County’s future workforce.
According to PCPS Superintendent Fred Heid, the gains are the result of focused, data-driven strategies paired with the dedication of students, teachers, administrators, and staff.
We’ve used an intensive process to identify the most effective strategies and provide extra support to our students. Our district grade has increased to a B, and we’re now seeing historic success in our graduation rate. This is why we do what we do. Our community should be proud.

These outcomes matter well beyond the school system. Higher graduation rates translate into a stronger talent pipeline—more graduates prepared for postsecondary education, technical training, and entry into the workforce. For employers, that means access to a deeper, more capable labor pool. For the region, it means increased economic resilience, higher earning potential, and greater attractiveness to expanding and relocating businesses.
“A strong graduation rate is one of the clearest indicators of a healthy and growing talent pipeline,” said Sean Malott, President & CEO of the Central Florida Development Council. “When more students graduate prepared for college, service, technical training, or direct entry into the workforce, it strengthens Polk County’s ability to attract and retain high-quality employers. Educational success today directly fuels economic prosperity tomorrow.”
Polk County’s success mirrors a broader statewide trend. Florida’s 2025 graduation rate reached 92.2%, marking a historic high and reinforcing the state’s growing reputation as a competitive environment for both talent and industry.
As Polk County continues to position itself for sustainable economic growth, the achievements of PCPS serve as a clear reminder: investing in student success today fuels economic competitiveness tomorrow.
