March 4, 2025 News

Engineering is an essential component of sustainable development and innovation. On World Engineering Day, we recognize the impact engineering has on industries and communities.

World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development is celebrated at the start of March each year. March 4th was proclaimed engineering day by UNESCO in 2019. The goal is to raise awareness of the huge role engineering plays in all aspects of life today. This day underscores the important role engineering plays in shaping our future—from infrastructure and technology to sustainable practices.

In honor of this day, we highlight the expertise of local engineering professionals in Polk County. These companies not only tackle pressing challenges in engineering, but also help shape sustainable communities for the future.

We celebrate and appreciate the important work local engineering leaders do and how they are making a difference. So, we spoke with three engineering titans and one mechanical contracting leader who are at the forefront of this dynamic field. They shared insights on how they approach complex engineering problems. Also, what they’re doing to pave the way for a more sustainable future, and how they are adapting to the rapid evolution of technology.

Polk County is also uniquely equipped to supply the quality talent this growing industry needs. Through educational programs and training initiatives, Polk County is helping cultivate the next generation of engineers who will continue driving innovation and addressing global issues. Educational institutions like Florida Polytechnic University and others within the area equip students with the necessary skills for future success. In fact, Florida Poly is the only state university in Florida devoted entirely to science, technology, engineering and math degrees. And, it is headquartered in Polk County.
